A Spokane Homeschoolers Successful Landscaping Company

As much as homeschooling is difficult, starting your own business is so much more. Being homeschooled has many benefits as well as some draw backs. Without being surrounded by kids of the same age, its difficult to get your child to interact with others.

Homeschooling creates a problem with social skills of a growing child and if you do not get your child to interact with their surroundings it will be harder for them to not only get a job but to fill involved.

One way to push ourselves is to get out and do what we are not comfortable with. For me that was starting a business and a business that requires social interactions. Its easier to get a desk job or a data entry job than it is to get a job where you have to deal with people, so that is why I decided to start a business.

Landscaping as a business is difficult in two ways. One, you have to work hard and doing any type of landscaping job is difficult especially when its hot outside. And two, you have to be self motivated and be able to communicate not only with your clients but also your employees. You have to stay on top of things in order to be successful. When there are issues or if you have clients who are not happy, you have to learn how to deal with those situations. Being more socially involved takes time and takes a lot of effort.

Coming from a homeschooling background I knew I wanted to get out and interact with people. Starting Spokane Landscaping has been a journey in itself.

I have loved working out doors and feeling accomplished every single day. Being able to start a project and seeing the end result is an amazing feeling. When you see something that looks horrible and you are able to make it look amazing, it give you a sense of accomplishment. You can tell yourself that you were able to do something amazing that others will be able to enjoy and to see every single day.

Landscaping itself is a very difficult job in the summer. Our season runs from the beginning of Spring to the first day it snows. Its hard to work every summer and during the whole summer. While other people are taking vacations, we are hard at work creating beautiful lawn or installing sprinkler systems.

Our payoff comes in the fall or winter months. We have very little work during the winter so we can take our vacation during that time. When everyone is stuck at home in the snow we can be in some tropical paradise enjoying ourselves.

Spokane Landscaping currently employs 12 individuals including one full time office staff. The company has grown every year since 1997, from a two person operation, to what it is today. You can find more out about Spokane Landscaping at their website here.

Home School Parents Need to See This!

I know that I don’t post enough on my website, and I wish I had time to do so, but I found this and I think it is worth sharing with you.

I came across this video of kids doing interviews and I wanted you to see it.

First let me tell you where it is from. This guy who is a dad, named Ben, has a pretty funny parenting blog called MyRaDDad. He interviewed his daughters and asked them pretty normal questions, but their answers are hilarious.

Check it out right here.

How A Highschooler Started A Water Damage Company

It was my Senior year in high school and I was sitting in class thinking about what to do. If you remember your senior year in high school you will remember that you had to know what you were going to do in life. You had to have a plan before you left. The year was spent planning for what college or job you would get, creating your resume and preparing for those never ending job interviews. When you are in high school you don’t really care about job interviews or how you will get your first job. Somehow it just happens, maybe because everyone knows you just got out of school and maybe they are having pity on you.

Instead of going straight to college I had the idea of starting a company. Why not start a business that helps promote other businesses. A friend of mine was starting a water damage company in Seattle and wanted me to help them get their name out there. It took a lot of planning, but by the time we were out of school we had our plan. Everything was set and we were ready to take over the market.

You know when you first get out of school you are ready to take on the world. You think you can take on the world! While you were in school you never really got to know what the ‘real’ world was like. So our first shot a starting a business failed and failed miserably! When you fail you learn and you start over. When you start over you do things differently that will help you succeed in the future. Those things that caused you to fail are now unable to make you fail again, because you learned from your mistakes. Hopefully you learned from your mistakes.

The second time around we were ready to make this work. We needed an office, an office manager, business cards, a website, a truck and equipment and knowledge on how to run a water damage company. There are parts of the business you never think about until they are needed such as how to bill a customers insurance company. It’s also important to use every form of advertisement to your advantage such as Google and Youtube. Having every form of advertising is important and to also create a following on sites like facebook, twitter and Google plus.

Home Schoolers Start Furnace Repair Business

Home-schoolers tend to get a bad rap as if they are not as smart as graduates from a local high school. But would you believe that many successful business owners never went to college. They decided to go their own way and start their own business. Many successful people, instead of spending $50k-$100k on a college degree, spent that money on starting their own business. Whether it was a furnace repair company, or a software company, these individual are mostly successful today.

How can a home schooler become so successful? Its because they had no one telling them that they couldn’t be successful because they didn’t’ go to school, or college. Today colleges will tell you that if you do not go, you won’t make a lot of money. I had a high school teacher tell me that if I didn’t go to college I wouldn’t amount to anything. Well I went for 1 year and then dropped out to start my own business. A business that I still have today. A business that is successful and while that teacher is still teaching, I am able to run my business from my home and living the life that I wanted to live.

Never underestimate a home schooled kid! Because that kid could be your boss one day. Instead of wasting time telling someone that they will never amount to anything, why not encourage them to do whatever they wanted. I was fortunate enough to grow up with parents that told me I could do whatever I wanted. Don’t follow the normal path that everyone is told to follow. Create your own path in life and you will be happy.

6.5.08. violin vs. viola: the basics

*Please subscribe to see more videos like this* My good friend Alex was in town this week from New York City, and I thought it would be fun if we made a quick video that covered the basic differences between the viola and the violin. Although the violin is a beautiful instrument, you just can’t the kind of robust tone from a violin that you would from a viola. I hope to get a viola for myself one day! Also, I’ll have an video update on my album recording next week. Stay tuned. :)
